Dyuna was born in Bahia Brazil, the second of three sons born to a Brazilian mother and African American father. Both parents were dance professors and artists who raised and educated their sons with a great focus on artistry and creative pursuits and the African diaspora. Moving back and forth from Bahia Brazil and the United States, firstly in Wisconsin then upstate New York, all three brothers found themselves in Brooklyn NY where they began their professional careers. Dyuna moved to NY to study fashion and pursue a design career. Life had other plans and within weeks of moving to New York, Dyuna landed a job at Original Leather NY which changed the path of his career and development. While at Original Leather, Dyuna met the first of many mentors who would take him under their wing as an apprentice and provide him with hands on training in sewing, pattern making and garment construction. In 2010 this experience paid off when Dyuna was presented with the opportunity to join Levi Strauss and Co.s new Tailor Shop program. Under the direction of the original Master Tailor Ryan Grant-Hays, they co-founded Levi’s Tailor Made bespoke jean pilot program. Dyuna would go on to become Levi’s Sr. Master Tailor launching and overseeing the Levi’s Lot 1 Made-to-Order jean program in New York. A position which he holds until this day, where he is the first and still the only black Levi’s Master Tailor globally.
